Sustainability Story

As we have seen our snowpack, winters and overall climate shift over the past 30 years, we believe that informed decisions and hard work can help reduce our environmental impact so that the snow is just as deep for our grandkids as it is for us. Using specific and accurate tools and info, we have measured our impact on the environment and are actively using this data to identify alternatives and drive future development decisions. We're proud of the work we've done, but we know there is no finish line and that this is a long journey. Recently, we've challenged ourselves to do more, and to do it faster, so we've partnered with Climate Neutral to offset our past carbon and to reduce our future carbon footprint.

What is Climate Neutrality

A state in which human activities result in no net effect on the climate system. Requires balancing of residual greenhouse gas emissions with reductions or removals. All Climate Neutral Certified brands must meet climate neutrality standards for measuring, offsetting, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from making and delivering products and services.

This certification covers business activities and operations for the following brands :

686 achieved Climate Neutral Certification as part of 's certification process. 's measurement, offsetting and reduction plans fully account for 686's 2021 emissions

01 Measure

686 measured Scope 1, 2 and 3 cradle-to-customer emissions following categories and approaches established in the Climate Neutral standards.

GHG Scope 1 ?
GHG Protocol Scope 1

Emissions from energy used in buildings, fleets, and equipment.

3 tCO2e

GHG Scope 2 ?

3 tCO2e

GHG Scope 3 ?
GHG Protocol Scope 3

Emissions from raw materials, manufacturing, shipping, air travel, and other activities in the supply chain.

18,244 tCO2e

Total Emissions ?
Total Carbon Emissions

The sum of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

18,251 tCO2e

02 Offset

686 invested in projects outside of their value chain to compensate for all of their measured carbon emissions. This step supports their climate neutrality designation, and enables 686 to take responsibility for historical emissions that can’t be reduced.

Total Investment in Carbon Credits

03 Reduce

686 has set targets and identified actions to reduce their emissions from operations and their supply chain. These actions will enable 686 to emit fewer emissions in the future.

Mid Term Targets

686 has committed to reducing emissions by .

This target is aligned with global trajectories to limit climate warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

This target is aligned with global trajectories to limit climate warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Reduction Actions

686 is implementing a Reduction Action Plan to reduce emissions from within its own operations and supply chain.

Current Year Reduction Actions

01

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce emissions generated from the production of our raw materials.

How We'll Reduce It

We will assess the GHG impacts of all of our main shell fabrics using the Higg Index Materials Sustainability Index. Once we baseline our GHG we will search for and switch to materials that have lower GHG impacts.

02

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce emissions generated from the production of our finished products.

How We'll Reduce It

We have assessed the cradle-to-grave GHG impacts of our Everything and Anywhere collections using the Higg Index Product Module. We have set a benchmark and we will now look for lower impact materials and production methods to reduce GHG impacts.

03

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce emissions by reducing cutting waste in manufacturing.

How We'll Reduce It

We performed a pilot benchmark exercise on our highest volume styles and determined the percent of waste generated. We will expand that assessment and partner with manufacturers to reduce the waste further through more efficient cutting.

What We’re Reducing

Through partnership with our factories we plan to reduce the amount of waste in cutting thereby lowering our overall carbon footprint.

How We'll Reduce It

We will analyze the markers made on our highest volume styles. We will use this analysis to find specific changes to the cutting process or to the marker making that will reduce overall material consumption and waste.

How We'll Reduce It

We will reduce by selecting materials and manufacturing processes that have lower carbon footprints.
