joinus@climateneutral.orgManager of Standards & Methodologies
Climate Neutral is a fast growing tech nonprofit working to mobilize trillions of dollars of individual purchasing power to get companies to eliminate carbon emissions. We manage a Standard for climate neutrality, and we provide tools to spark ambitious corporate climate initiatives. Companies that achieve our certification can use the Climate Neutral Certified label, which motivates climate action by businesses and individuals. Our certification framework represents a model of climate action that demands clear, quantified, immediate investment in cutting GHG emissions. We envision a world where all people demand accountable climate action from their employers and the companies whose products and services they choose.
The Role
We're looking for a highly motivated leader to join our team as Manager of Standards. Our work intersects with countless standards and methodologies in corporate sustainability, ESG, carbon measurement, the voluntary carbon market, and more. Your job would be to be our internal subject matter expert on these many frameworks. You would be responsible for ensuring that our Standard remains the most trusted and high-impact climate label of its kind, and you would lead and support many aspects of our strategy, product and program delivery, stakeholder collaboration, and external communications. This is an exciting cross-functional role within our highly collaborative and passionate team.
Your Responsibilities
- Ensure alignment with international standards and regulations. Follow the fast-moving developments in international standards for net-zero, carbon neutrality, GHG measurement & reporting, carbon offsetting, science-aligned reductions, climate claims, and other climate-related activities.
- Advocate for our Standard externally with key audiences through marketing, communications, events, and direct 1:1 outreach.
- Manage the annual stakeholder review of our Standard. Lead our two external advisory committees as they provide input on potential changes to our Standard. Define agenda, recruit participants, manage discussions. Lead a general/public stakeholder comment process. Present recommendations to our Board.
- Create and deliver content for marketing campaigns, education, advocacy, white papers, and other communications to build awareness of and support for our impact model.
- Research and create new frameworks for analysis and benchmarking. Explore new ways of analyzing and tracking GHG reduction progress. Develop promising ideas into program additions.
- Participate in, conceive, and/or lead external working groups. This could involve joining existing initiatives as our lead representative, or launching new ones.
- Lead company-facing workshops and produce and contribute to subject matter content. Working with our program leads, serve as a standards & methodology resource to our brand community.
- Contribute to development of key partnerships and recruitment of new certified brands.
Here’s what we’re looking for in a candidate:
You’re drawn to the idea of working for a fast-moving nonprofit team that thinks big, moves quickly, and has fun. You’re passionate about climate change, and you’re excited to play a central role in a growing movement and our mission.
- You have worked directly to implement or apply multiple common standards and methodologies for GHG management and corporate climate action such as PAS 2060, ISO, GHG Protocol, SBTI, etc.
- You have a comfortable working knowledge of voluntary carbon markets, including both established and emerging methodologies.
- You understand decarbonization pathways, including how companies deploy reductions and compensation/offsetting together.
- You’re fluent in discussing and analyzing technical aspects of greenhouse gas management.
- You have a solid portfolio of written communications, and an ability to translate technical, complex topics into compelling narratives.
- You’re familiar with regulations around green marketing.
- You’re enthusiastic about working on a small, passionate team in a virtual, startup environment.
- You can travel occasionally, including joining in-person team offsite meetings quarterly.
