Sustainability Story

United By Blue follows the B Corp ethos that business can and should be a force for good. Founded in 2010, UBB took on a one-for-one business model from the beginning, pledging to remove one pound of trash from an ocean, waterway, or coastline for every product sold. We completed our first waterway cleanup the same week we sold our first t-shirt, and haven't stopped since. To date, United By Blue has completed more than 300 cleanup projects resulting in the removal of over 4 million pounds of ocean-bound trash. Outside of our environmental mission, United By Blue designs and manufactures sustainably and ethically made products, such as apparel, accessories, home goods, and bags. We also host other sustainable and ethical brands/products on our website through our Sustainable Marketplace. Our goal is to offer a holistic sustainable lifestyle through the combination of ethically made products, reduced environmental impact, and waterway cleanups.

Current Year Reduction Actions

01

What We’re Reducing

We plan to improve demand planning within our supply chain to reduce the need to air freight shipments, and instead prioritize ocean shipments. We plan to reduce air-shipped-miles by 6.25% by 2023, in accordance with our Science Aligned Target.

How We'll Reduce It

We plan to increase our lead times for manufacturing so that we have more time to ship product to the US from overseas via ocean freight before it is needed to meet sales deadlines.

02

What We’re Reducing

We plan to transition our electricity sourcing for our 2 Philadelphia retail stores to renewable energy sources in 2022. We will reduce electricity consumption from fossil fuel sources by at least 6.25% compared between 2021 and 2022 data.

How We'll Reduce It

We will research and purchase electricity from renewable energy sources from the electrical grids associated with Philadelphia new store locations. We expect the reduction to be higher than 6.25% once transitioned to renewable energy.
