Sustainability Story

We live and love the mountain life, and we see ourselves as caretakers of the resources that provide it. That's why we are committed to a higher standard of business operations. We were founded to inspire balanced, conscious living in connection with nature and we do that by providing exceptional outdoor apparel that's rooted in our authentic mountain life and the interconnectedness of people and planet. In our commitment to stewardship, we have identified key areas of impact in which we pledge to benchmark, do better and report out on progress. Three years after announcing our stewardship commitment, we increased our consumption by weight of preferred materials to 48%. We continue to invest in preferred materials as a strategy to reduce our carbon footprint and reach our goal of 75% preferred materials by 2025. We carefully consider the impact of our material choices as we strive to deliver the best. After all, the most sustainable products are those that we keep in our closets and out of the landfill.

What is Climate Neutrality

A state in which human activities result in no net effect on the climate system. Requires balancing of residual greenhouse gas emissions with reductions or removals. All Climate Neutral Certified brands must meet climate neutrality standards for measuring, offsetting, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from making and delivering products and services.

This certification covers business activities and operations for the following brands :

Stio achieved Climate Neutral Certification as part of 's certification process. 's measurement, offsetting and reduction plans fully account for Stio's 2021 emissions

01 Measure

Stio measured Scope 1, 2 and 3 cradle-to-customer emissions following categories and approaches established in the Climate Neutral standards.

GHG Scope 1 ?
GHG Protocol Scope 1

Emissions from energy used in buildings, fleets, and equipment.

26 tCO2e

GHG Scope 2 ?

60 tCO2e

GHG Scope 3 ?
GHG Protocol Scope 3

Emissions from raw materials, manufacturing, shipping, air travel, and other activities in the supply chain.

12,737 tCO2e

Total Emissions ?
Total Carbon Emissions

The sum of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

12,823 tCO2e

02 Offset

Stio invested in projects outside of their value chain to compensate for all of their measured carbon emissions. This step supports their climate neutrality designation, and enables Stio to take responsibility for historical emissions that can’t be reduced.

Total Investment in Carbon Credits

$270,000

03 Reduce

Stio has set targets and identified actions to reduce their emissions from operations and their supply chain. These actions will enable Stio to emit fewer emissions in the future.

Mid Term Targets

Stio has committed to reducing emissions by .

This target is aligned with global trajectories to limit climate warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

This target is aligned with global trajectories to limit climate warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Reduction Actions

Stio is implementing a Reduction Action Plan to reduce emissions from within its own operations and supply chain.

Current Year Reduction Actions

01

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce Scope 3 emissions through targeted supply chain collaborations.

How We'll Reduce It

Join one of the OIA Climate Action Corp Impact CoLab opportunities. Impact CoLabs are targeted collaborations that OIA leads or partners on to help Climate Action Corps members, like Stio, work together to reduce emissions that are hardest to reach.

02

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce our Scope 3 emissions by encouraging our partners and suppliers to use cleaner energy mixes when manufacturing Stio products.

How We'll Reduce It

We will discuss with our partners their ability to purchase green energy, asking suppliers their willingness to install solar solutions, and explore renewable energy certificate for areas where no alternative energy is available.

In Progress Reductions

01

50%

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions by benchmarking energy efficiency and renewable energy in our supply chain.

How We'll Reduce It

We will use 2020 as a benchmark year - using Climate Neutral BEE estimate and Higg FEM data from our partners to better understand electricity use in our material and garment manufacturing supply chain.

02

100%

What We’re Reducing

Increase our use of recycled materials from 25% to 35% in the next 12 months. This will help divert waste from land fills and reduce our impact from raw material purchases.

How We'll Reduce It

Focus efforts on our largest programs that use conventional polyester and nylon. Specific attention will be placed on our Pinion and Environ programs. We will then use the Higg Index to better quantify the GHG impact of these material updates.
