Sustainability Story

Nuun is a Seattle-based company on a mission to empower more movement. As makers of electrolyte tablets and powders, one of Nuun's founding goals was to develop a way to hydrate effectively without relying on single-use plastic bottles. We are proud to be Climate Neutral Certified for the second year in a row, and we continue to focus on improving the sustainability of our packaging, events, and activities as part of our ongoing environmental efforts.

What is Climate Neutrality

A state in which human activities result in no net effect on the climate system. Requires balancing of residual greenhouse gas emissions with reductions or removals. All Climate Neutral Certified brands must meet climate neutrality standards for measuring, offsetting, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from making and delivering products and services.

This certification covers business activities and operations for the following brands :

Nuun achieved Climate Neutral Certification as part of 's certification process. 's measurement, offsetting and reduction plans fully account for Nuun's 2021 emissions

01 Measure

Nuun measured Scope 1, 2 and 3 cradle-to-customer emissions following categories and approaches established in the Climate Neutral standards.

GHG Scope 1 ?
GHG Protocol Scope 1

Emissions from energy used in buildings, fleets, and equipment.

9 tCO2e

GHG Scope 2 ?

0 tCO2e

GHG Scope 3 ?
GHG Protocol Scope 3

Emissions from raw materials, manufacturing, shipping, air travel, and other activities in the supply chain.

15,427 tCO2e

Total Emissions ?
Total Carbon Emissions

The sum of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

15,436 tCO2e

02 Offset

Nuun invested in projects outside of their value chain to compensate for all of their measured carbon emissions. This step supports their climate neutrality designation, and enables Nuun to take responsibility for historical emissions that can’t be reduced.

Total Investment in Carbon Credits

03 Reduce

Nuun has set targets and identified actions to reduce their emissions from operations and their supply chain. These actions will enable Nuun to emit fewer emissions in the future.

Mid Term Targets

Nuun has committed to reducing emissions by .

This target is aligned with global trajectories to limit climate warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

This target is aligned with global trajectories to limit climate warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Reduction Actions

Nuun is implementing a Reduction Action Plan to reduce emissions from within its own operations and supply chain.

Current Year Reduction Actions

01

What We’re Reducing

Nuun plans to reduce emissions from materials purchased to manufacture our products.

How We'll Reduce It

We will work with our ingredient procurement team(s) to identify the carbon footprint of current ingredients used and evaluate alternatives with lower carbon outputs to achieve a 20 percent reduction in carbon intensity from a 2018 baseline.

02

What We’re Reducing

Nuun plans to reduce emissions from uncontrolled facilities by working with manufacturing partners to understand energy use within the supply chain.

How We'll Reduce It

Nuun will work with manufactures to track energy output on an ongoing basis and assist with evaluating and implementing reduction methods and renewable energy alternatives.

What We’re Reducing

We plan to work with a key supplier to reduce emissions from its manufacturing operations.

How We'll Reduce It

We will work with the supplier as it implements solutions to reduce their Scope 2 emissions. We know the supplier is interested in doing this, but haven't had the conversation with them to understand the specific actions they will be taking.

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce emissions from upstream and downstream transportation.

How We'll Reduce It

We will work with our logistics provider to optimize shipping and reduce emissions.
