Sustainability Story

JuneShine started from a simple question: Why do we know so much about the food we eat, but not the alcohol we drink? We could find a transparently and sustainably made product in just about every grocery store aisle, except for alcohol. We decided to change that with JuneShine. From Day 1, sustainability has been our focus. We donate one percent of sales to environmental nonprofits through 1% For the Planet, our brewery runs on 100% renewable solar energy, and we compost at each of our breweries. We publish annual sustainability goals around water usage, energy usage, and CO2 emissions to keep ourselves accountable. We couldn't be more thrilled to now be working on our Climate Neutral certification and truly say our business has zero carbon footprint. Our motto in adventures and in business is always to leave the planet better than you found it, and this partnership is a significant step in that direction.

What is Climate Neutrality

A state in which human activities result in no net effect on the climate system. Requires balancing of residual greenhouse gas emissions with reductions or removals. All Climate Neutral Certified brands must meet climate neutrality standards for measuring, offsetting, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from making and delivering products and services.

This certification covers business activities and operations for the following brands :

JuneShine achieved Climate Neutral Certification as part of 's certification process. 's measurement, offsetting and reduction plans fully account for JuneShine's 2021 emissions

01 Measure

JuneShine measured Scope 1, 2 and 3 cradle-to-customer emissions following categories and approaches established in the Climate Neutral standards.

GHG Scope 1 ?
GHG Protocol Scope 1

Emissions from energy used in buildings, fleets, and equipment.

GHG Scope 2 ?

169 tCO2e

GHG Scope 3 ?
GHG Protocol Scope 3

Emissions from raw materials, manufacturing, shipping, air travel, and other activities in the supply chain.

13,653 tCO2e

Total Emissions ?
Total Carbon Emissions

The sum of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

13,828 tCO2e

02 Offset

JuneShine invested in projects outside of their value chain to compensate for all of their measured carbon emissions. This step supports their climate neutrality designation, and enables JuneShine to take responsibility for historical emissions that can’t be reduced.

Total Investment in Carbon Credits

03 Reduce

JuneShine has set targets and identified actions to reduce their emissions from operations and their supply chain. These actions will enable JuneShine to emit fewer emissions in the future.

Mid Term Targets

JuneShine has committed to reducing 2021 emissions 50% by 2030.

This target is aligned with global trajectories to limit climate warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

This target is aligned with global trajectories to limit climate warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Reduction Actions

JuneShine is implementing a Reduction Action Plan to reduce emissions from within its own operations and supply chain.

Current Year Reduction Actions

01

What We’re Reducing

Our plan is to reduce an ingredient in our brewing process that is being shipped from Africa. Our reduction goal is to reduce this ingredient by 50% and cut our shipping orders by 50%. This goal is set for Q3 2022.

How We'll Reduce It

We plan to reduce shipping on this ingredient from Africa by 50% by Q3 2022.

02

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce our CO2 emissions by recapturing our off-gassing CO2 from fermentation, which is roughly 1,000,000 lbs of CO2 off-gassed through fermentation.

How We'll Reduce It

We plan to purchase a CO2 recovery unit by July 2022 with a project timeline of one year to implement into our brewing process in June 2023. (Previously, we installed equipment to reduce leaks from our bulk CO2 tank storage.)

100%

What We’re Reducing

We plan to recapture CO2 from our brewing process and remove any CO2 leaks found in our equipment

How We'll Reduce It

We will accomplish by: a) Capping tanks prior to the end of fermentation, b) Installation of algae bioreactor system to capture CO2 from fermentation takes to convert into oxygen and c) Improve all our CO2 connections to eliminate leaks via industrial
