Sustainability Story

We're an independent sunglass brand designed & tested beachside in Los Angeles, CA. As lifelong surfers and beachgoers, we believe it is our and every brand's responsibility to treat our planet kinder. We make our sunglasses with bioacetate, a biodegradable and petroleum-free frame material. Our packaging is single-use plastic free. We're committed to ongoing improvement in this space (please @ us if you have ideas!). We'll always strive to lessen our footprint with innovative design and materials, but we hold no illusion about our environmental impact. As such, we are taking responsibility for our business and products' carbon emissions, working with Climate Neutral to measure and fully offset our total carbon footprint.

What is Climate Neutrality

A state in which human activities result in no net effect on the climate system. Requires balancing of residual greenhouse gas emissions with reductions or removals. All Climate Neutral Certified brands must meet climate neutrality standards for measuring, offsetting, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from making and delivering products and services.

This certification covers business activities and operations for the following brands :

Crap Eyewear measured Scope 1, 2 and 3 cradle-to-customer emissions following categories and approaches established in the Climate Neutral standards.

GHG Scope 1 ?
GHG Protocol Scope 1

Emissions from energy used in buildings, fleets, and equipment.

Current Year Reduction Actions

01

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce emissions from purchased case materials by increasing the use of recycled and/or upcycled alternatives such as recycled PET fabric, recycled PU, regenerated paper and eco-leather.

How We'll Reduce It

We will first research and understand various alternative materials that are available in the market, and develop updated products (cases) accodingly. Then we will incorporate the alternative materials in future purchase orders.

02

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce emissions from manufacturing suppliers by selecting and allocating production volume to sustainability certified suppliers.

How We'll Reduce It

We will vet suppliers that have demonstrated good sustainability practices by achieving credible certifications such as ISCC. We will then allocate production volume to the new suppliers.

01

100%

What We’re Reducing

Eliminate single-use plastic from our supply chain.

How We'll Reduce It

We are packing lens cloths in paper envelopes instead of plastic sleeves, and we?ve redesigned our sunglass cases to utilize cardboard-based support for structure instead of traditional plastic inserts.

02

100%

What We’re Reducing

We are transitioning our entire product line to bioacetate in 2021. Bioacetate is a biodegradable and petroleum-free version of acetate, the industry-standard material for optical-grade frames.

How We'll Reduce It

We have been redesigning/relaunching all of our products traditionally made with acetate to utilize bioacetate. Additionally, all new products are being developed and made with bioacetate.
