03 Reduce

Black+Blum is implementing a Reduction Action Plan to reduce emissions from within its own operations and supply chain.

Current Year Reduction Actions

01

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce our upstream shipping emissions by holding stock closer to our main markets.

How We'll Reduce It

We will set up a warehouse in Belgium, which is closer to our two largest markets of Germany and France.

02

What We’re Reducing

We plan to reduce the number of single use PE bags that we use to protect our products in transit.

How We'll Reduce It

We will improve our printing method, so our gift boxes do not require an additional PE bag to protect the artwork on the box during shipping.

Other Sustainability Notes

At Black+Blum, sustainability is at the forefront of our design philosophy. Whether that is the materials we use, how they function, or what features can be added to prolong the life of the product, we design to ensure everything we create can be used again and again. We are dedicated to conscious consumption, providing high-quality food and drink containers that last and offering replacement parts should anything (like a lid) go missing, rather than customers having to repurchase the entire product. We are proud members of 1% for the Planet, which commits us to donate one percent of our total annual sales to non-profit environmental causes. Our chosen Eco Charity partners include City Harvest, who redistribute surplus food from supermarkets, restaurants, manufacturers and wholesalers to those in need like homeless shelters, women's refuge centres, children's programmes and centres for the elderly. To date, they have redistributed food valued at more than £20 million, free, to their partners and offset over 27,000 tons of greenhouse gases. We also support Trees for Cities, which are the only UK charity working on a national and international scale to improve lives by planting trees in cities. They get stuck in with local communities to cultivate lasting change in neighbourhoods – whether it’s revitalising forgotten spaces, creating healthier environments or getting people excited about growing, foraging and eating healthy food. To date, they have planted more than 1,117,899 trees with over 6000 volunteers, and educated over 16,000 school children in 26 cities. Living more sustainably is central to our brand communications. We are passionate about cooking, fighting food waste and bringing your own food in our containers, avoiding single-use packaging and reducing our impact on the planet.
