We're combining Climate Neutral’s trusted climate label with Planet FWD’s scientific rigor to expand consumer confidence in ESG-related claims and accelerate our mission to eliminate emissions.

SAN FRANCISCO – March 2, 2023 – Planet FWD, the leading climate management platform for consumer companies, and Climate Neutral, the trusted consumer climate certification and label, today announce they have entered into partnership. This partnership will enable companies to measure, reduce, and offset their greenhouse gas emissions more efficiently, while increasing consumer trust and confidence. It will also accelerate the organizations’ aligned missions to make it easier for companies to improve their environmental impact and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions.

Consumers are looking to brands to take climate action. A 2022 study found that 66% of people surveyed were willing to pay more for sustainable products. However, despite their desire to support companies that align with their values, 78% said they don’t know how to identify environmentally friendly companies. In order to build trust, consumers need to understand how companies are taking strides toward a more climate-friendly future. 72% of surveyed consumers use labels or third-party certifications to confirm a company or product’s sustainability credentials.

This partnership aims to dispel consumer confusion and provide consumer companies greater confidence against greenwashing. As Planet FWD joins Climate Neutral’s Open Certification program, brands will be able to work with Planet FWD to understand their carbon footprint and take action to reduce emissions. Then once complete, brands will be prepared to earn certification and use the Climate Neutral Certified label. Brands will build consumer confidence and trust, as the label indicates they are following an independent framework to measure, reduce, and offset their cradle-to-customer emissions today.

“With less than 7 years to reach global 2030 climate goals, now is the time for consumer brands to step forward and lead on climate,” shared Julia Collins, CEO and founder of Planet FWD. “We are proud to support consumer companies on achieving their climate action goals and hasten the transition to a net zero future.”

Consumer brands increasingly view climate leadership as critical for brand stewardship and sales growth. According to a recent McKinsey and NielsenIQ study, brands making credible ESG-related claims have 8% point higher cumulative sales growth, over the past five years, as compared to products not making ESG-related claims.

“Planet FWD’s mission and climate expertise with consumer brands immediately aligned with our Open Certification program,” said Ellie Read, Certification Director at Climate Neutral. “We’re proud to welcome Planet FWD into our partner network. This partnership will provide certifying companies with access to the deep subject matter focus of Planet FWD, and accelerate industry alignment towards a single climate label that consumers can trust and understand.”
